Alabama: Update on 2018 Winery Shipping Legislation

Updated: March 28, 2018

Dear Wine Lovers of Alabama,

Unfortunately, Alabama’s wine and beer wholesalers, as well as the state’s powerful retailers, had the wine direct shipping bill killed before it could reach a vote by the Senate.

If it passed, SB 243 would have allowed adult consumers in Alabama to purchase a limited amount of wine directly from U.S. wineries, as is allowed in 45 states plus the District of Columbia. Alabama will remain one of the few states with an archaic ban on direct shipping.

Thanks to all of you who wrote letters to your state legislators in support of positive change. Hopefully we will have another chance next year.
